Digging Up the Past: Tools of the Trade
Tools of the Trade
Archaeologists use many kinds of tools to excavate a site. It is very important that they choose the appropriate tools so that they do not damage a site and its artifacts. They use tools that range in size from large tractors to tiny dental picks. They must be able to excavate artifacts gently.

You can use the following tools:

Metal and bamboo picks can get grains of dirt out of nooks and crannies.
A scoop made from a milk jug.
Soft brushes can sweep away dirt without scratching.
