Aspen's First Tow

Aspen's first tow, c. 1936 was a platform that held up to 6 people and was pulled up the mountain next to Roch Run by a cable attached to an old Model A Ford engine and two old Midnight Mine hoists.

In 1937, the platform tow was replaced by two "Boat" tows which were fitted with wooden seats which accommodated 8 people each. The tow was run by the Roaring Fork Winter Sports Club (now the Aspen Ski Club) which charged a nominal fee for the ride. [During the 1938 - '39 season, DRC Brown's brother, Fletcher Brown, operated the tow.]

In 1946, a single chair- lift was built, but the boat tow continued to operate through March of that year.
