The Wheeler Opera House
Early Autos from our Photo Catalog.
The Wheeler Opera House, built by Jerome B. Wheeler, was completed in the spring of 1889, only ten years after prospectors first entered the valley.

This building represents the final phase of mining town architecture. Aspen now reflected an urban environment not unlike that of any major city east of the Mississippi River.

Aspen could not only boast a real opera house, but electric lighting, telephone service, a school system and street cars among the many amenities offered its citizens.
