By 1886, H.P. Cowenhoven and his son-in-law D.R.C. Brown, two of Aspen’s most prominent businessmen and citizens, invested an alarming $30,000 in this enormous, brick Aspen Block building which they intended to rent to businesses. The exterior of the building is noted for its gracefully bracketed cornice, beautiful storefront, and elaborate pressed tin pediment.
