Armory Hall, as it was originally known, was built in 1892 to serve the needs of Company C, First Batallion. The building was used for other purposes as various groups and lodges planned dances, balls, church fairs, concerts, cakewalks and many other social events. During the "quiet years," Aspenites flocked to the hall for basketball games, roller-skating, flower shows, and more. Its transition to municipal building began in the early 1950s after the original City Hall on Durant St. was demolished.
