This brick block was one of 75 buildings constructed in 1891. As home to the Young Men’s Christian Association, it contained two reading rooms, an amusement room, and bathrooms equipped with soap and towels. For only $6.00, young men with "good moral character" could partake of magazines, books, games, and educational classes. Mary Chitwood bought the building in 1925, establishing a rooming house for high school students from ranching families. Walter Paepcke bought it for back taxes in 1945, and during the 1950s and ’60s, the corner housed breakfast restaurants popular with skiers and locals. In 1987 the building was remodeled and an addition was added to the east.

By the 1940s, when the picture at right was taken, the Lincoln Block was being used a garage. >

< By the 1950s, this corner location had become the Epicure Danish Bakery, a popular breakfast spot for skiers on their way to the slopes. That would begin a long history of restaurants in the space.
