The Isis Theater

^ The Isis exterior and the theater stage and curtain c. 1915.

Shoe merchant Henry Webber built the Webber Block in 1892. The building housed numerous commercial ventures until the Women’s Civic Improvement League converted it to the Isis movie house in 1915. Along with silent films, variety shows, and minstrel shows, the building hosted church services every Sunday. In 1999, it was remodeled and opened as a cineplex theater, preserving to a large degree the original facade.
