The Keene Block | Aspen Drug
In 1887, S.W. Keene built this building on the corner of Galena and Hyman streets for office and retail space. The Ford family opened a drug store in 1890 bringing many necessary items to Aspen. In 1918, a fire destroyed much of the building. The whole town came out to help contain the fire and keep fire-fighters in warm, dry socks and filled with hot coffee. The building was reopened as quickly as possible without the upper stories, which were added in the 1960s. Aspen Drug ceased doing business in 2002 and is soon to be the home for a real estate office.
