In 1953, Ralph Melville risked a good share of his life’s savings on this site for his "dream lodge," which he and a helper built from scratch. Ralph and his wife Marian have devoted their lives to the lodging business, expanding the lodge into an interesting conglomeration of additions. The Mountain Chalet has now been successfully in existence for fifty years (2003), but has never lost its homey feel or lack of glitz and pretension.
