The Silver Queen Mural
This wall painting depicts the Silver Queen Statue which was created to boost silver mining interests at the 1893 Columbia World Exposition. It took six men nine months to complete the statue shown here. The ten-foot, silver, white glass, and mineral queen, represented an "ideal Pitkin County maiden of 17 years"—the age of the state of Colorado in 1893. She was the centerpiece of the eighteen-foot-high, ornate Victorian statue reportedly valued at $20,000. The Silver Queen was part of an exhibit at the Pueblo Mineral Palace until 1942, when that building was torn down and she was last seen partially intact. What do you think happened to her? Send us your theory below.
